RXM TEXTURE COAT
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS (January 2007)
For Professional Use Only
TEXTURE COAT FOR INTERIOR SURFACES
RXM TEXTURE COAT is a durable and decorative acrylic latex coating.
RXM TEXTURE COAT can be applied to: drywall, plaster, cement block,
precast concrete, wood, Masonite, tile, metal and AAC. Note: concrete,
block, tile, wood, plaster or other rough surfaces may need to be
skim-coated or primed and skim-coated to achieve a desired look
and adequate bond prior the application of RXM TEXTURE COAT.
RXM TEXTURE COAT is based on modern acrylic chemistry, contains
no clay, plaster, or cement compounds and can be tinted to any color.
RXM TEXTURE COAT remains slightly flexible when cured, making it
resistant to cracking as the moisture content of the substrate decreases
over time.
RECOMMENDED USES
RXM TEXTURE COAT is a spray applied or rolled, interior, acrylic-textured
coating for interior walls/ceilings. It is installed by factory-trained
applicators, is cost competitive and extremely durable.
RXM TEXTURE COAT was designed to replace wallpaper and paint and
it won't trap moisture, tear or support the growth of mold/mildew.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Surfaces to be coated must be clean, dry, and free of wax, grease,
dust, mildew, water-soluble materials, scaling, loose paint and
wallpaper. Glossy areas should be thoroughly cleaned with heavy-duty
industrial cleaner or wax remover, rinsed with clean water, allowed
to dry and then sanded and/or scraped with a wire brush until gloss
has been dulled. Coating with RXM PRIMER may be necessary prior
to installing RXM TEXTURE COAT over glossy or difficult surfaces.
Note: to create a desired look and/or adequate bond, rough surfaces
or surfaces with irregularities may require coating with RXM PRIMER
and RXM SKIM COAT prior to installing RXM TEXTURE COAT. Contact
TM Pratt & Company for recommendations.
MOLD & MILDEW
Mold and Mildew identification, remediation, and prevention are
subjects that have been written about extensively. While our coatings
products contain mold and mildew inhibiting agents; these will only
inhibit the growth of mold and mildew on the coating itself. If
mold and mildew is present in the environment where you intend to
install our coatings, we recommend that you eradicate the problem
before you proceed. There are many mold and mildew eradication companies
in your market area that can assess and address the problem. In
addition, the EPA provides substantial background material at www.epa.gov
(search on mold or mold remediation). We have included some of the
EPA documents concerning mold on our CD or you can link to these
files at www.tmpratt.com/mold.
Difficult Substrates: TM Pratt & Company offers a number of
specialty primers for use over difficult substrates such as bleeding
woods, grease, crayon markings, hard glossy surfaces, galvanized
metal or other substrates where paint adhesion or stain suppression
is a particular problem. Contact TM Pratt & Company for recommendations
on the right problem-solving primer for your special needs.
APPLICATION & FINISH OPTIONS
RXM TEXTURE COAT is applied by personnel who have received training
from TM Pratt & Company in the application of RXM products over
various substrates.
RXM TEXTURE COAT is tinted to the desired color specification at
the factory, requires no thinning and will only need to be mixed
if product has traveled a great distance or been allowed to sit
for several months or more.
STANDARD FINISHES
Standard Finishes are two-step systems that include RXM EGGSHELL
FINISH and RXM TEXTURE COAT. Note: RXM PRIMER and/or RXM SKIM COAT
may be required for difficult substrates or to create a desired
look.
RXM TEXTURE COAT is spray applied using a simple hopper gun and
compressor outfit or a more elaborate 'SprayTek' RTX 1500 spray
machine which may reduce installation time on large projects. Multiple
gun adjustments, air pressure settings, tip sizes, spray patterns
and knock down techniques will yield a wide variety of looks. As
a starting point for RXM TEXTURE COAT/STANDARD FINISHES, assuming
the ambient temperature and humidity are 75 F & 70% RH: Marshalltown
QLT Sharpshooter hopper gun set on ¼" orifice with medium
trigger stop setting and air compressor at 20 -30 psi. Apply a uniform
pattern at a rate of 100 square feet per gallon shooting from a
distance of 4 to 6 ft. from the surface to be coated. Allow sprayed
material to set up for approximately 20 to 25 minutes before knocking
down. Use a two-step knock down procedure with the first step being
an 'X' pattern. The second and final knock down pass should be vertical
with a flat steady finish stroke. Recommended knock down tools:
Red Devil brand painter's Trim Guard/Vinyl Smoother # 4048 or a
quality 10" dry wall taping knife.
EGGSHELL OVER TEXTURE FINISH OPTION
Allow RXM TEXTURE COAT to dry for at least 24 hours before lightly
pole sanding with 80 grit heavy-duty production paper and top coating
with RXM EGGSHELL FINISH.
PREMIUM FINISHES
Premium Finishes are two and three-step systems that include RXM
EGGSHELL FINISH, RXM TEXTURE COAT and RXM RAISED TEXTURE COAT. Refer
to INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS for RXM RAISED TEXTURE COAT for finish
options: Raised Texture and Texture over Raised. Note: RXM PRIMER
and/or RXM SKIM COAT may be required for difficult substrates or
to create a desired look.
Full Texture Sprayed: assuming the same conditions and using the
same equipment as described in STANDARD FINISHES above, set hopper
gun at ¼" orifice with ¾ or full open trigger
and compressor at 15 to 25 psi. Apply uniform pattern at a rate
of 70 square feet per gallon shooting from a distance of 3 to 6
ft. from the surface to be coated. Allow sprayed material to set
up for approximately 45 minutes before knocking down. Use the same
two-step knock down procedure and tools as described in STANDARD
FINISHES above.
Full Texture Rolled: RXM TEXTURE COAT is roller-applied using a
texture type roller cover at a rate of 50 square feet per gallon.
Allow rolled material to set up for approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
Re-roll material as needed while it sets up to create the desired
look before knocking down using procedure and tools described above.

DRYING TIME
Dry time @77 F (25 C) @ 50% RH
Set to touch - 12 hours
To Recoat - 24 hours
To service - 24 to 48 hours
Drying time may vary depending on temperature, humidity, air movement,
and application techniques.
THINNING/CLEANUP
Thinning is unnecessary but if required to obtain the desired application
properties a small amount of clean water may be added and mix thoroughly.
Never add other paints or solvents.
Clean hands tools and equipment with warm soapy water. Spray equipment
should be given a final rinse with mineral spirits to prevent rusting.
Use completely or dispose of properly. Dry, empty containers may
be recycled in a can-recycling program. Local disposal requirements
vary; consult your sanitation department or state designated environmental
agency for information on disposal options.
CERTIFICATION
Formulated without lead mercury or chromates.
LIMITATIONS
Do not apply when air and surface temperatures are below 50 F (10
C).
